Happy September and welcome back to another school year! I'm so excited to be back working with the Calgary Catholic LD program and can't wait for the exciting year ahead of us!
I know the transition to another - much bigger - school can be challenging for a lot of students, but we've had a pretty smooth start-up to the year. We still have tons of the same resources from St. Anthony to help students learn, and many of the same faces.
In our grade 6 classroom, we have Mrs. Seggewiss helping us out as our EA, and she is absolutely fantastic!
Our first week back has been a busy one as we try to learn new school rules and procedures, start up some of our subjects, and have some fun too.
I've begun assessing students so that we can better understand what their strengths and weaknesses are and we can better help them with their literacy and math skills. It can be draining for students (especially in the first week back), but we've also had some fun going outside for SPARK and for gym and playing some Math and Language Arts games.
In Langauge Arts, we're going to be beginning our first novel study of the year on the book Holes by Louis Sachar. It's one of my favourite kids' books and I'm really excited to read it as a class! As a start-up activity, we played a game of Amazing Race all about Louis Sachar, which the kids had a great time playing.
I'm really looking forward to our grade 6 year together and can't wait to share more fun activities!
